If You're Not Measuring, You're Not Marketing

Why do businesses think having a Facebook and Twitter is the answer to everything?  When designing a new website, one of the first questions I always hear is “Where are my Facebook and Twitter buttons going to go?”  We find it’s more important to have 1000 likes with no user interaction than 100 with full user interaction.  Not true.  There are many tools available.  Some of them are free and allow you to measure your social media awareness.  I would encourage you to fully utilize the tools from Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, and if you are using tools for newsletters like MailChimp or iContact, they usually have tools to measure your marketing.  Create goals for yourself like what you want to accomplish each month and work towards those goals.  If you find measuring your traffic is not important and you’re never trying new things to get your clients engaged, then what’s the point?
