There was a
great round-table discussion with Paul Jacobs regarding the future of radio and
the digital dashboard. Radio is getting nervous by the carmakers who is
considering the discontinuation of FM radio dials in the car. The digital
dashboard will have a app-like screen for radio listening. Jacobs did stress
the importance of HD radio in the car and how all-new models will have build HD
radio in the car. Meanwhile, the aggregators like TuneIN, iHeartRadio, Pandora,
Spotify and more scare radio as they could be the sole-radio listening
experience in the car. Major app companies are looking to carmakers on how they
can develop for the digital dashboard. Radio needs to start thinking about this
because it’s the future in a few years.
